I am trying to use the nwexport17.ma with Microstation connect and it will not load.
I am guessing that it is a compatability issue with moving to connect.
Is there an easy way of upgrading the ma to work with connect.
Is there anybody out there that has already done it.
I do not have the time to be learning how to write code.
My fall back will to be to install SS10 to see if the ma works.
No nwexport support in CE. Most likely because Autodesk wrote the plugin in 32bit and CE is 64bit.
Hi,
to extend an answer from Tuan Le:

V8i applications (both native C/C++ and NET) cannot be used with CONNECT Edition. As mentioned in this discussion already, the main reason is because V8i is 32bit applicaiton whereas CE is 64bit. But it's not the only difference, from developers' perspective more important is that API is different in V8i and CE.

No, there is no easy way. Every application has to be migrated from V8i platform to CE manually. How complicated it is depends on many things, but at least the application source code has to be modified to be compatible with CE API and then recompiled.

The only person / subject that can do it is an author of the application who own the application project including source codes.
It means when you want to use the exporter in CONNECT Edition, you have to ask Autodesk (who is the author I guess) for the right version.

Your question isn't about programming, so a better place to post it would be the MicroStation Forum. Perhaps somebody there is familiar with NavisWorks Exporter?
NavisWorks is owned by AutoDesk. Perhaps you should ask AutoDesk about a version of Exporter for 64-bit MicroStation CONNECT?
Regards, Jon Summers LA Solutions
The Navisworks Exporters for several programs (32bit AND 64bit) are usually delivered by Autodesk when a new Navisworls version comes out..
We updated from Navisworks 2019 to 2020 in December.
Still no 64bit Exporter for CE available.

You CAN get the impression that Bentley and Autodesk are not at friendly terms at the moment and let the customers suffer for that

Hi Stefan Sikora,
Do you mind reviewing the latest recommendations (iModel and/or Beta support options) provided and/or re-asking your question (possibly in a MicroStation only context) on this thread?
Thank you and HTH,Bob
Hi Bob;
thanks for your response.
I tried your suggestion this morning.
Published an i-dgn both in plain V8i and plain CE from a particularly stubborn dgn, put the settings in the Navisworks dgn-file reader to beta loader.
The result is just a grey space.
The main reason for us to use the mdl exporter is that we have a lot of imported graphics that end up as Smartsolids in our dgns.
It seems that at SOME OCCASIONS Navisworks has difficulties in interpreting those Smartsolids, at other occasions they come in perfect when attaching the dgn directly.
Johannes Michalowsky suggests:
For Prosteel using DWG, in Navisworks Options set the File Format to AC 2019, then the OE will work. If using MicroStation results may differ.
HTH,Bob
Its just plain Microstation.
No relations to ProSteel or dwgs whatsoever.
Well its about programming an mdl.
And for me that seems to fit more in the programming forum.
About the question who is the author of the mdl... i am not sure.
Neither Autodesk nor Bentley give an answer to that.
Seems like civil-servant-mikado.
The one who does the first move has lost.

It's pretty clear that Navisworks is an AutoDesk product. They offer a DGN file reader for Navisworks. It may be that they are focussing their efforts on Navisworks and its DGN reader, rather than a plug-in for MicroStation CONNECT. From your point of view, you want to transfer data from a DGN file to Navisworks: does it make any difference if those data are exported using MicroStation or imported using Navisworks?
You must ask AutoDesk when they plan to have — or whether they plan to have — a 64-bit app for MicroStation CONNECT. A built-in DGN reader may, in their view, be a better solution than a MicroStation exporter.

They are competitors. But the goal of any company is to satisfy its customers: there is no benefit to its shareholders when a company wastes time on its competition. Whether or not the two companies are 'friendly' (whatever that might mean) is irrelevant — if you use Navisworks then you are an AutoDesk customer.
Ask AutoDesk when they plan to have a 64-bit app for MicroStation CONNECT. Perhaps their advice will be to use the DGN file reader for Navisworks.

What 'move' can Bentley Systems make? The author of Navisworks is AutoDesk. AutoDesk is, I believe, a registered MicroStation developer. AutoDesk has multiple products that either read DGN files or are apps for MicroStation. Bentley Systems neither implements nor authorises third-party software products. Bentley Systems makes the MicroStation CONNECT SDK available to Bentley Developer Network (BDN) members: it's up to AutoDesk to provide your software.
