Navisworks exporter with connect

I am trying to use the nwexport17.ma with Microstation connect and it will not load.

I am guessing that it is a compatability issue with moving to connect.

Is there an easy way of upgrading the ma to work with connect.

Is there anybody out there that has already done it.

I do not have the time to be learning how to write code.

My fall back will to be to install SS10 to see if the ma works.

  • Well its about programming an mdl.

And for me that seems to fit more in the programming forum.

About the question who is the author of the mdl... i am not sure.

Neither Autodesk nor Bentley give an answer to that.

    Seems like civil-servant-mikado.

  • About the question who is the author

It's pretty clear that Navisworks is an AutoDesk product.  They offer a DGN file reader for Navisworks.  It may be that they are focussing their efforts on Navisworks and its DGN reader, rather than a plug-in for MicroStation CONNECT.  From your point of view, you want to transfer data from a DGN file to Navisworks: does it make any difference if those data are exported using MicroStation or imported using Navisworks?

You must ask AutoDesk when they plan to have — or whether they plan to have — a 64-bit app for MicroStation CONNECT.  A built-in DGN reader may, in their view, be a better solution than a MicroStation exporter.

You CAN get the impression that Bentley and Autodesk are not at friendly terms at the moment and let the customers suffer

They are competitors.  But the goal of any company is to satisfy its customers: there is no benefit to its shareholders when a company wastes time on its competition.  Whether or not the two companies are 'friendly' (whatever that might mean) is irrelevant — if you use Navisworks then you are an AutoDesk customer.

Ask AutoDesk when they plan to have a 64-bit app for MicroStation CONNECT.  Perhaps their advice will be to use the DGN file reader for Navisworks.

What 'move' can Bentley Systems make?  The author of Navisworks is AutoDesk.  AutoDesk is, I believe, a registered MicroStation developer.  AutoDesk has multiple products that either read DGN files or are apps for MicroStation.  Bentley Systems neither implements nor authorises third-party software products.  Bentley Systems makes the MicroStation CONNECT SDK available to Bentley Developer Network (BDN) members: it's up to AutoDesk to provide your software.
