When save dgn file as dwg (dxf) - a lot of styles changed (got other styles). Error?

I need will get drawing from dgn V8 file for Autocad. And when  i export file in dwg or dxf  - i get dwg, dxf file with other (changed) styles lines and features. I load this dwg (dxf) file back in microstation - styles changed. Why this happened?saveAsDwgChangeStyles.dgn

  • Hi Sergey,

it seems (I had a time for very quick check only) that a source of the problem is in the design file structure: It's created using "individual attributes of every element" approach, used as default in DGN V7 time. But AutoCAD approach has always been "use level symbology".

It means, that using default setting, DGN is converted to DWG (I did not try DXF) using "by level" symbology, because it's what AutoCAD prefers. Consequently, individual symbology (elements attributes values) are lost.

To change it, switch off Use Level Symbology Overrides in Save as DWG/DXF options.

BTW Best practice, when it's known DGN will be converted to DWG, is to create DGN "as in AutoCAD", which means to do not use MicroStation hard-coded line styles 0 - 7, always use "by level" symbology etc. To switch MicroStation to DWG mode also helps to follow AutoCAD specifics.

    With regards,
