Hi all,
A simple text based file .jnl can be created for v7 DGN files using EDG tool. Is there any such tool to create a .jnl file for V8 DGN files???
Thanks, Rapa.
EDG is a V7-era utility. There is no EDG for V8.

What is a .jnl file?
There are more ways to customise V8 than there ever were for V7. What do you want to do?

Jon,
A .jnl file contains the graphic data in simple text format. Is there any utility that creates a text file from v8 DGN file with the graphic details like EDG does?

Rapa

Not that I'm aware. V8 elements are more complex than V7 elements, and there are new elements that didn't exist in V7. It would be impossible to export graphic data in a 'simple text format'.
We've written tools that export DGN elements in XML format. XML, although plain text, is able to convey complex data structures.
Ok, where can I get those tools?
Thanks,
Is the .JNL file format you are looking to create similar to this sample EdG Journal File, or a different format than referenced by the Ask Inga post: "Maximize your productivity with EDG and Excel!"? If that format is correct, it would be helpful to know why you would want to create an error report in MicroStation V8 since that implies that you have files you are having issues with and looking to correct. If you could explain a little bit more on what you are trying to accomplish or more details about your intended workflow we may be able to help more.Thank you,Bob
Yes Bob, I was talking about the same file. I want to write the data in to a txt file before and after the operations I do just to ensure that the data is not lost or corrupted unless it is relevant to the operations I did.
There are a wide array of element properties and attribute data that can be accessed via the current MicroStation APIs (MicroStation VBA, MDL Native, MDL API, MDL Addin). It would be helpful to know what programming language you prefer and some additional details about your criteria/requirements for comparison and when you are looking to make those comparisons (immediately, changing models, changing design files, two files that are not active, etc.). If you could provide a few more details we should be able to provide you some direction on achieving your goal.
