Configuring caching for ProjectWise V8i implementations requires the use of Fully Qualified Domain names of both the integration server and caching server. Sometimes this is not technically possible due to network configuration or a server being on an external network to the integration server. In these cases, you can still utilize the servers for caching; you just need to configure ProjectWise to resolve the fully qualified domain name of the server via the IP Address. To do this, there is a section in the dmskrnl.cfg file in the ProjectWise bin directory called “Server Name Resolution”. Add each of your external or non-FQDN servers to this section by their IP Address and provide a fully qualified domain name. After the FQDNs are configured here, you can use them to configure the gateway and routing sections of the dmskrnl.cfg. With this configured, when clients request a file, ProjectWise will receive the incoming request, look to the “Server Name Resolution” configuration, and retrieve the FQDN via the IP Address. This is a simple way to resolve server to server FQDN resolution issues utilizing only ProjectWise configuration.
