Is the ProjectWise Index taking up all of your drive space?

For systems that have been indexing ProjectWise data for some time this may be an issue you are running into.  If it is there is a way to move the index.  Please follow the steps below to move your index to a drive that has more space:

    1. Stop the Microsoft Indexing service

    2. Stop the ProjectWise Orchestration Framework service

    3. From Windows Explorer, create a folder for the new location of the index files (proxy and catalog)

    4. For Server 2003 and prior open Computer Management, drill down to Services and Applications> Indexing Service.  For Server 2008 and later open up a run command>type mmc and hit enter>file>add or remove snap-ins>add in the Indexing Service.

    5. Under the bentley_index item, add a new directory pointing to your new location

    6. From Windows Explorer, copy entire contents of old index location, to newly created index location. Be sure to get all subfolders, including the hidden folder named catalog.wci. By default the old index location is>c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\index-storage

    7. From Computer Management, remove (delete) the old location from the index. This does not delete the folder/files. It only removes it from the index.

    8. Delete/archive the files from the old index location now, or at your convenience

    9. Open REGEDIT, and browse to> HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\bentley_index

    10. Edit the "Location" key and change the value to point to your new index location. This is the part that resets the location for the hidden folder catalog database. If this step is not done, the catalog will be maintained in the old location, even though the proxy files are in the new location.

    11. For v8i to SS3: Open REGEDIT, and browse to:

        a. On 32bit machines: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File Processing

        b. On 64bit machines: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File     Processing

    12. For SS4 and after: Open REGEDIT, and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File\Processing

    13. Edit the "FtrIndexCatalogDir" and "FtrIndexDataDir" and change the value to point to your new index location.

    14. Close REGEDIT

    15. Restart the Microsoft Indexing Service

After completing these steps your index is now moved.  You will see some CPU activity while the indexing service checks the catalog, this may go on for a short amount of time but will not be as near taxing as re-indexing everything.  If you have any questions about the steps above, please call in and TSG will be happy to assist.
