Introducing the first of a series of Blogs based on real life mysteries that were solved by ProjectWise Technical Support we call them SCI (Strange Computer Incidents). Read on and see if you can solve the mystery. This series is intended to be interactive and we hope informative.
A. Nonymous called in about a user that was opening one file but getting a different one in its place. This was true for every file in a certain project that was opened from ProjectWise.
The caller thought that ProjectWise was copying out the wrong file and replacing the content of the file being opened.
If the user saved the file and checked it in, then it would be incorrect for anyone who opened it.
Now see if you can solve this mystery for yourself. You can post questions and we will answer them.
The Solution (And Cause if known)
The answer will be added to this post next week.
If you want to cheat you can look up this solution in the Knowledge Base…
The user had set MicroStation to open to a specific view as a custom user preference. This view was the same in every file. It was a bill of material view and they were all still blank. So while MicroStation was actually opening different files they just looked identical.
