The recently added photo preview feature in ProjectWise Explorer was developed to more easily view image files in the preview pane of ProjectWise Explorer without having to open them in a specific application. In implementing this feature, Bentley added the technology that allows you to view a photo in Internet Explorer to ProjectWise Explorer. This means that ANY file that is viewable in IE can be viewed in ProjectWise Explorer. This also means that any limitations in viewing a photo in IE will also appear in ProjectWise Explorer. To accomplish this you will need to have the native application installed on your computer such as installing Acrobat Reader to view a PDF in IE.
This then means that you should be able to view Autodesk’s DWF files in the photo preview as long as you do two things. First, you should install the Autodesk Design Review software. This would give you the necessary pieces that would allow you to view a DWF in IE. Then you will need to add the MIME type of a DWF file you are trying to view, to the pwviewer.cfg file that is located in the bentley\projectwise\bin folder. Here is a list of known DWF MIME types: application/dwf, application/x-dwf, drawing/x-dwf, drawing/x-dwf (old), model/vnd.dwf, image/vnd.dwf, image/x-dwf
Are you aware of anything similar for viewing DWG files (AutoCAD) or NWD files (Navisworks)?
