Troubleshoot Bentley’s Transmittals Services with logging adjustments

        There are several potential Bentley Transmittals Services modules on the network that may need to have logging adjustments to capture the proper troubleshooting information. During the install or operation of the Bentley Transmittals Server, Portal, Explorer, or Administrator, you may have issues that require debugging.  To grab the best snapshot of what is happening behind the scenes, you need to add the following logging category:  “pwise.tms” (add the whole entry) to the configuration xml files.

I)                     For Bentley Transmittal Service Server

 in C:\Program Files\Bentley\Transmittals\logging.config, update the line

 <level value="WARN" />

to

 <level value="ALL" />

The output of this log is C:\ProgramData\Bentley\logs\loggingservice.log

II)                   For Bentley Transmittal Portal

in   C:\Program Files\Bentley\Transmittals\portal\PortalLogging.config, update the line

<level value="WARN" />

to

<level value="ALL" />

The output to this log is in the C:\Program Data\Bentley\logs\Portallogging.log

III)                For Bentley Transmittal Connector for ProjectWise Explorer

Add the following to  C:\Program Files(x86)\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin\pwc.log.xml  (32 bit machines- c:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin)  outside the documentation section, perhaps after </appender> and before the <root>

<!-- Messages related to Bentley Transmital Service -->

    <category name="pwise.tms">             <priority value="all"/></category>

 The output of this log is written to the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Bentley\logs\pwc.log for XP workstation  (C:\Users\user.name\App Data\local\Bentley\logs for Windows 7)

IV)               For Bentley Transmittal Connector for ProjectWise Administrator

add the following to C:\Program Files(x86\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin\pwadmin.log.xml  (32 bit machines- c:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin) outside the documentation section,  perhaps after </appender> and before the <root>

After the logging stage has concluded, you may want to go back to the logging.config, Portallogging.config, pwc.log.xml, and pwadmin.log.xml and do a Top menu Edit > Replace > “All” with “Warn” to capture less data and keep your disk space less more efficient.
