Here is the problem when opening a simple 3D model file:
Has anyone seen something like this? Would you have some suggestions how to debug this?
There may be a variable defined in your workspace related to the folder where the file resides. This variable needs to be added to the Managed workspace 'Variables to exclude from the copy-out' list.
Once the files are cached, it shouldn't take as long the second time open. Unless of course you click the Free button from the first check in dialog that appears. This button is different than all other methods of checking files in, as it not only frees the active file, but also all of the other references copied out. Why this behavior? IDK, we have been trying to get Bentley to address this and make it consistent with other methods for more than a decade with no success.
We call this "the Dastardly Free" button.
Thank you for your reply. Under the managed workspace section in PW Admin, there is sub section "Variables to exclude from copy-out". Is that what you're referring to? My list of variables into that section is the default one. I've tried adding variable _DGNDIR with no effect. It's downloading all the files (and versions) from the folder where the document is opened from.
At Bentley's recommendation, I’ve done some testing on our managed workspaces adding each CSB one by one until I can reproduce the problem. It looks like it happens when the application CSB is added. The only thing happening in that CSB is that variables _USTN_WORKSPACEROOT and _USTN_SITE are re-assigned to ProjectWise folders. I can’t see why that would cause every files (including all versions) in the opened document folder to be downloaded.
is there a reason you're setting those variables at all? And why in the application level? Are you pointing them to the folder where the opened document is at?
