Hello, wondering if there is a limit on DMS folder for ProjectWise storage?
we are already at D0110815 in last 4 year PW usage and assuming we will use the rest soon.
How do we handle storage once we run out of DMS folder?
projectwise maintains an 8 digit dms folder name as long as possible. When you hit 9,999,999, it will drop the D and use 8 digit numbers. This gives a max of 99,999,999 folders. I'm not sure what happens at that point but I believe it just keeps incrementing over the 8 digit number. If that is correct the limit becomes the max length of a Windows folder name.
You're currently using around .1% of available folder names.
The last folder name for a dms folder would be d9999999. Kevin is partially correct, ProjectWise maintains an 8 digit DMS folder names starting from dms00050. When the number of folders increases, eventually it drops 'ms' and continues folder names as d100000 till d9999999.
This has been tested against ProjectWise Design Integration Server 10.00.02.265 and 10.00.03.140 versions.

good to know. Do you know what happens when it hits d9999999? Does it throw an error?
our datasource with the most folders is up to d0480000 and it took many years to get there so i'm not real worried, just curious.
Thanks Gayatri. What happens after it hit the max limit? do we need to create new datasource and link with new storage? we have 70% empty folders currently in PW because PW Admin create folder using templates with permissions and it creates lot of empty folders. we are at D0110820 already and afraid we may use up the limit soon. we are trying to reuse the empty folders but sometimes it has so many permissions that it makes easy to create new folders.
Also, I am assuming if we delete a folder we cannot reuse the DMS # again, correct since these folders are unique numbers.
You are correct, we cannot use the dms number again. You have exhausted only 1.1% of the limit in 4 years and still have 98.9% to go. But if it helps, we can have a look at the template that you are using for creating Projects so that we can minimize the number of empty folders that are being created.
