Any suggestion to create a note field as an attribute to allow users to drop some generic comment.I was thinking adding a VarChar of 1000 Charater, but it seem we are not able to use carriage return to create line.
In the attribute properties, under the Editing tab set the Control type to multi-line edit field.
Thank you Kevin
Any limit suggestion for the length?
1000 is what I typically give them. 500 if there are a lot of other long attributes.
can't remember if Bentley worked around it but SQL Server has a limit of 8000 bytes per row, and a row for environments is all the attribute lengths added together. But notice I said "bytes" and not "characters". Varchar type is unicode encoding, in unicode a character can be 1-4 (or more? can't remember now) so 1000 characters can be 4000 bytes, or 1/2 the space. I think the smiley face emoji I put in that example is a 4 byte encoding.
If your users mostly use the English alphabet, most characters are 1 byte.
