To open a file in read-only mode, select Open or Open In from the context menu. When you select Open, the file opens in the default program. When you select Open In you can choose the program you wish to open the file with. If you have an application installed from the Bentley Navigator family, you can open i-models. You cannot edit files opened in read-only mode.
To edit a file from ProjectWise Edge you must first check the file out. When you check out a file, no one else can edit it until you check in the file. To check out a file, right click the file and select Check Out from the context menu. The file displays with a red checkmark icon. To edit the file, select Open or Open In from the context menu. The file opens in the appropriate program. When you have finished editing the file, save your changes from the program. From ProjectWise Edge select Check In from the context menu to sync your changes to the server and free the file for editing by anyone else.
Note: When you check out a file, the file remains checked out even if you close ProjectWise Edge.
From the context menu, you can also select Free to release a file that you have checked out. When you select Free, the file becomes available for editing by anyone again. Any changes that you made to the file are not synced to the server.
You can select Update Server Copy from the context menu to sync your changes to the server without freeing the file for anyone else to edit. The file is not checked in and you may continue editing the file after updating the server copy.
ProjectWise Edge includes basic versioning capability. When you select New Version from the Context Menu, the Version dialog box opens where you can enter a version code which will display under the file name of the new version. When you select done from the Version dialog box, a new version of the file is created alongside the old version. The old version displays the Read Only icon. You cannot check out or edit the old version. You can only check out or edit the newest version of a file and you can only create a new version from the previously newest version. You cannot delete the newest version of a file while any older version exists. You must delete the older versions first.
Note: You cannot create a new version while a file is checked out.
From the Context menu you can also Delete files and Copy files. You cannot delete a file that is checked out. When you copy files, you can paste them from the More Actions button.
To ensure that your files are synchronized with the server, select Refresh from the More Actions button. If there is a problem synchronizing files the Conflicts dialog box opens where you can resolve conflicts. Unsynchronized files display with a red icon. From the Conflicts dialog box, select the appropriate command for the error and select Done. ProjectWise Edge then attempts to synchronize the files with the server again.
