Q. Why can't I overwrite a PDF in this ‘Plots’ version Projectwise folder from within MicroStation? Refer to snap shot below:
Thanking you in advance
Since the print output is essentially a "save as" operation to PW, and you are using the same file name, it's a file name conflict in that folder, as indicated by the error message. You'd have to delete or rename the other one from PW first. I don't think PW includes any mechanism to prompt you and ask if you want to replace a file when a conflict like this occurs, like Windows does.
Not sure if you could set up the document creation rules in user settings to do something like automatic versioning or creating a new document with appendage, though I'm not sure that's exactly what you are looking for.
Please note that I post here on a voluntary basis and am not a Bentley employee.
At the moment I've got to output my pdf’s outside Projectwise and then drop and drag them over to my ‘Version Folder’ within Projectwise which is not the ideal document management procedure.
Maybe Bentley will come up with a better workaround?
Rob - As you noted, this is a deficiency in our current product offering and we have opened CR 298697 to track this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I am running into this issue, as well. Has Bentley figured out a solution to this problem? It is insane to think that this problem was brought up over a decade ago and there isn't a better solution than saving the pdf outside of PW and then drag/dropping it back into PW.
