Navigator Connect and Microstation v8i compatibility issues

I am producing i-models via Microstation V8i and trying to open them via Navigator Connect Edition 10. I receive an error message that this version of Navigator doesn't support the i-models. Do i need to publish an i-model with MicroStation Connect to be able to use them in Navigator Connect?

  • Hi,

    I am producing i-models via Microstation V8i

It's too vague specification. What version do you use? There have been many versions of MicroStation V8i released. Please provide complete name (e.g. MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 10)) or the product build version (e.g. 08.11.09.919).

and trying to open them via Navigator Connect Edition 10.

The same problem here. Several versions of Navigator CE was released (but the product development was canceled, so there will be no new versions).

I receive an error message that this version of Navigator doesn't support the i-models.

It's probably because MicroStation publisher older i-model version than required by Navigator.

For very long time, Bentley uses i-model (.imodel extension) version 1.5 (sometimes mentioned as 05), but in some version of MicroStation CE a new version 1.6 was introduced.

Do i need to publish an i-model with MicroStation Connect to be able to use them in Navigator Connect?

I have not tried it, but I think not necessarily, but it's probably the simplest (user friendly) solution.

I-model is not published by MicroStation itself, but DGN V8 packaged iModel (.i.dgn) is produced and in the next step, this file is converted into DgnDb .imodel file. These converters are installed separately and can be used from command line, so when you have .i.dgn, to republish to new .imodel would be enough.

But, it requires to learn how to work with these tools, so it makes sense only when there are many such files that should be republished as a batch.

Because it's not clear whether you have MicroStation CE license available, maybe even simpler option is to use Bentley View CE as i-model publishing engine. I have not tried it for i-model publishing, but it should be possible accordingly to a documentation.

    With regards,
