    Clash Detection Suppression Rules

Using Bentley Navigator V8i SS3, I am looking for the proper way to setup a suppression rule to suppress clashes between elements on two specific levels.  I am self checking the entire structural model against itself.  So I setup the clash detection criteria by selecting the structural discipline master model reference and turn on Self Check.  Now I want to suppress clashes between the S-SLAB-EDGE and S-JNTS-EXPJ levels.  I can’t turn these levels off or select the criteria by other levels because I still want to find clashes between elements on these levels with other elements.  There is a template rule from the generic set that suppresses clashes with elements in specific levels, but I am not sure how to setup the “regular expression”.  The rule basically states:  Suppress clashes if the clashing elements are in a level that matches the regular expression <RegEx>.  Any help would be appreciated.

      Mark,

There currently isn't a rule template that allows you to define a suppression rule for a clash between an element on LevelX and an element on LevelY.

For the rule you are trying to use - you'd be supressing all clashes that have at least one element on either of the either of the two levels.

I think your only choice is to set Criteria SetA by adding all the levels except S-SLAB-EDGE

then for Criteria SetB by adding all levels except S-JNTS-EXPJ

Also for information about Regular Expressions you can review the Navigator help or also look online (a good reference:  www.regular-expressions.info

I'll add a request to the development team to look at adding a Rule Template for the example you outlined, suppressing a clash between two specific levels.

      ~Paul

      Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I was beginning to think it was not possible to suppress clashes between elements on different levels without turning the levels off or using the level selection criteria method.  I misunderstood the rule that you've explained.  Regarding your work around, I guess I could do that as a secondary check.  The other thing I'm considering is to mark those clashes as "accepted".  Thanks for the help.
