    Projectwise/Bentley Navigator and PW

    Hello

At work we are using Bentley Mech, Arch, Structural, ..... SS2 with the project models/files hosted on Projectwise (can't immediately remember which version, but it is the correct one for BB Suite we are using)

We have some 'co-ordination' files that we are using for clash detection. These files are empty and are just used to reference in the relevant design files.

We then open these in Projectwise Navigator SS3. All the reference files are there, and the clash detection routines work fine.

On issue though, we can't open the Reference files directly from within Projectwise Navigator. Meaning that when you select a Ref file in the Ref Manager, or by right clicking on it in the View Window, it does not give you the option to exchange to that file, or 'open in a new session'

Is that normal?I can't find a Setting anywhere that allows you to activate this capability.

Projectwise Navigator does seem to 'presume' that you will be using it with i-models. Does that have anything to do with it? (we haven't got around to using i-models yet)

Is there a config somewhere that we have to set to enable PW Navigator to 'link-up' better with PW

      Hi Danny,

Reference Exchange is i guess disabled in Navigator, as if you key-in "Reference Exchange" it doesn't ask you to select the DGN file from View for exchange unlike MicroStation. You will find the same behavior with i-model as well. Since Navigator Ss4, Desktop integration with ProjectWise Explorer is enabled automatically. For versions prior to that, you can add PW.cfg file from MicroStation's  to Navigator's config folder to automatically enable it from Desktop. After placing the file, you will know that ProjectWise integration is enabled if you see the ProjectWise Log in dialog when you launch the application, prompting you to select a ProjectWise datasource before you are prompted to select a file to open.

      Regards,

      Junaid

in relation to this, I am unsure which way to go - desktop integration OR start Navigator from within PW... I know both are possible, but Navigator under a managed workspace configuration (all my projects inherit the managed workspace from the project folder) for me doesn't work properly yet... there must be some configuration blocks that work for ABD but prevent Navigator from starting... However, using Desktop integration seems inconsistent with using PW so I would prefer using Navigator from within PW... help!

      Chris
I can only symphise at this point
We are using Navigator SS4, but an earlier version of PW (SS2 but I'll have to check)
The problem is, PW is provided and set up by the client, but we (the consultants and contractors) are left to install Navigator ourself and we have restriced access to the C drive so we can't do anything regarding pcfs and so on.
I would have though that using Navigator from within PW was a preferable approach as we are supposed to 'pushing' to get PW being used by all concerned as the 'front end' or main interface for all the project models, drawings, docs, info, ect, ...

Chris, ..... have you tried selecting the imodel (are you using imodels), .... or the co-ordination file for Clash Detection (guessing you have something like that set up???????), then via the Properties Dialog Box, chosing Navigator as the application to use?
Do you see what I mean?
