ProjectWise, workspace purging from within PW explorer, only possible in projects?

    Hi All,

While using the command "Purge Workspace" inside PW explorer, I encountered that this feature only seems to work for project-type folders and folders below project-type folders.

In the documentation it is not limited to any folder type or folder hierarchy. My expectation was that I can use purge workspace in any folder.

Can anyone confirm this behaviour, or is it some configuration/software issue at my end?

By the way: To what items in the PW explorer belongs "the workspace"? Are workspaces per-project?

    Thanks for any replies.

    Thorsten.

Yes Purge workspace does not seem to work correctly. Tools\Local document organizer allows to clean up much more. Another drawback is that purge doesn't delete files which are deleted from PW but there are local copy still remaining on disk for example some dgnlibs could be still attached even after purge operation. Honestly the managed workspace concept is flawed it would be better if it would sync it with original folder names without dms001,dms002 etc and in seperate folder.

Thorsten, the managed workspaces are part of whatever your admin has set up.  It could be per project, but that seems less likely than per client.

You might be able to right-click on a project folder and look at the workspace tab.  If you are able to do that, you can see what configuration blocks have been set up and where (i.e. site, client, project, user, etc.).

      Thanks for these explanations.

I think, there was a misunderstanding on my side about how a workspace is linked to any managed file or folder structure. The online help does not explain it in a very detailed way, either.

I think system behaviour could be described this way: If a _USTN_WORKSPACEROOT variable is set for a managed folder, the related local workspace copy is purged by right-clicking and choosing “Purge Workspace”. If no such variable is defined, nothing is purged.
