    The parent folder conundrum...

I've found and read about the issue of not being able to lock down the read/write/modify properties of a parent folder while still enabling those permissions on subfolders below it.

My question is... what have people used as the best workaround or compromise to it?

I suggest that you assign permissions from the bottom most folders, where you want them to create subfolders and content, then assign permissions to their parent. When you are doing this make sure you use "This folder only". If while assigning permissions, you choose another option, you may wipe out all permissions set in child folders of the folder you are on. For example: give Elec, Struct, everything but "change permissions", then on the parent folder give it "read/file read" only for folder and document.  We usually create a template with the permissions needed for a project, then copy and paste it as needed.
