    Linking ProjectWise Document Attributes

    Philip Las Gourgues

I have an attribute used in the definition of my document code. It's obtained from a pull down list for discipline and adds a single letter to the document code (S - Structural, C - Civil etc). Later in the document attributes which are linked to a Microstation tag set I want to set an attribute to "STRUCTURAL" if S was chosen in the document code, "CIVIL" if C was chosen in the document code etc. Is there an easy way to do this? We're running on an Oracle database.

    Thanks in advance,

    Philip Las Gourgues

Philip,There is a way of doing this by adding a new 'Lookup' environment.
As an example this environment (e.g. ENV_LOOKUP) would have 3 fields: CODE, DESC, TYPE
You can then add 'documents' (without a file attached) into a folder set to this environment to manage the entries.
      e.g. CODE = S, DESC = Structural, TYPE = Discipline
Then add a new attribute to your document environment with an Update value set to :SELECT DESC FROM ENV_LOOKUP WHERE CODE = '$EDIT#[source attribute]$' AND TYPE = 'Discipline'
Use your source attribute (with the Discipline code) as a trigger for this new attribute. You will need to update your Tag Set and configure the Attribute Exchange Rules for this to appear in your CAD files.
I would also recommend using the Lookup environment values to populate your drop-down list to keep the values in sync.
Hope that is of some help.Peter Willmen
