    Hi,

We have an existing PW SS3 on windows 2003 server box and we are planning to upgrade it to PW SS4 on windows 2008 R2 SP1 server. I did manage to install PW SS4 on a test environment using the IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE but I am a bit confuse on the upgrade section.

can you please show the steps here?

    thanks,

    Jessie

      Hi JessieMCS,

So I am assuming you have your database backed up and your new server has PWSS4 Installed.

      1. Connect your database on your database server in a new database (rename it something other than the production)
      2. On the PWSS4 test server create a ODBC connection to the database you just connected (backup database)
      3. Launch a command prompt as a administrator and (change directory to the ProjectWise\Bin folder) c:\program file\bentley\projectwise\bin and type in the following:

         DMSCONV -d ODBC_datasourcename -u ODBC_username -p ODBC_password

Thia dmsconv.exe utility will start the upgrade process. Once upgrade as been successfully completed in the command prompt window

      4. Launch ProjectWise Administrator and login to complete the schema update (tables updating) it will prompt you to upgrade tables and select 'YES'

      5. Once done you will be upgraded.

      Thanks,

      Ranveer

      Hi Ranveer,

just to make it clear. All the steps you have mentioned will be done in the Test environment server (PW SS4)?

      Hi Ranveer,

I tried to restore the database in SQL that I backup from SQL management studio. I got this error " restore failed for server "MCPW". (microsoft.sqlserver.smoextended)
      Additional information:
system.data.sqlclient.sqlerror: The media set has 2 media families but only 1 are provided. All members must be provided.

      any idea please?

      Jess

      Hi JessieMCS,

Are you restoring from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005? I have seen this before,  when you restored did you restore to a single .bak file or you split the backup to two files. I would backup your database again to a single .bak file. While I cannot support your database however, I can point you to some MSDN support articles that talk about the same error: social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../the-media-set-has-2-media-families-but-only-1-are-provided

      Hope that helps...
      Ranveer
