Can a member of the Administrator group copy the server path for requesting restores?

I have been asked to write a customization that will allow the Admin user to copy the server path, so that they can paste it into the IT restore request form.  Is there a standard way to get this path, or is writing a customizaion needed?

Hi Dean, Could you create a property that stores the value? This would have to be triggered, but in the SQL you could build the string by querying the dms_doc, dms_stor and dms_proj tables.

I could do that, but I really don't want the attribute readable by anyone other than someone in the Adminstrator group. Is there a way to mark the attribute as only viewable by admins?

There isn't a way to set permissions on user attributes. Another potential problem is that once this value is set, how would you update it if the storage location was moved by the administrator for one reason or another? Granted, this isn't likely to change, but it could of course.

I suspect that your "best bet" is to either "educate" your IT folks on how to determine where the file was, or to provide them with a custom tool that only works if the user is an administrator. Or perhaps, generate a custom report from time to time that "maps" a given storage area to a path that they can recognize. I've seen that approach taken by some users, particularly if the number of storage areas isn't too large. The key to this report is making sure that the IT person understands how the dmsXXXX folders relate to the ProjectWise folder ID.

FWIW, my preference for "restores" is to provide the restored file directly to the user or a ProjectWise Administrator so that they can "restore" it manually. I've seen a few cases where the "IT" folks don't quite understand how ProjectWise works and "restore" a bit too much directly to a storage location and inadvertently create other "issues". Your choice of course.

I will write a customization for them then. We always have IT restore to a "recovery" directory, then update PW through the UI.
