Prevent document creation in folder based on document application

    Hello,

I want to disallow document files from being added to a folder when the application of the document file is a specific application.

    For example:

"Folder A" may contain Acrobat, Word, Excel but not AutoCAD

"Folder B" may contain AutoCAD, Microstation only and NOT Word and NOT Excel

"Folder C" may contain Images and NOTHING else

    .. is this do-able?

    Thanks,

    Kevin.

thx Scott, looks like there is a valid argument for adding this feature to Project Wise Explorer.

To add a bit of fuel to this, I also would like to be able to restrict document creation based on application.
My needs come from using other tools like OpenPlant. I have configured managed workspaces, and in any given project I may have three managed workspaces in use. This makes it important that the users create the correct type of files in the correct folder.
I can restrict the applications associated with folders by upgrading them to projects, but this does not stop the user from using an application that is not in the list.
Being able to restrict document creation like this also would mean administrators could then streamline downstream processing options because they know what types of documents are being processed.

We are new to Project Wise, still slowly implementing it. I guess we are still setting folders incorrectly and using it incorrectly.

Many users have not learnt the huge advantage of using searches. Instead they rely on the Document View to locate documents. Many of our folders already contain many thousands of documents. So, to alleviate the problem, our inexperienced team have decided to add a project folder just for Image documents.

This action is almost meaningless as users will simply continue to add images to the other Project folder without some measure to enforce the policy. That's why I asked, thought maybe I could apply a policy of "document by application" to project folder.

Hello Kevin, No this feature is not currently available in ProjectWise. However it is a very interesting concept. Could you provide a reason why this feature would be beneficial to your workflow, and what the workflow might be. Thank you
