    ProjectWise Versions- Xrefs

We are currently working on a large project with lots of drawings, each with many X-refs. When a design changes a new version is created of the drawing, and all the X-refs that are likely to change.

If we want to a view an old version of the drawing, is there a way of viewing it with the X-refs in their previous version as well?

Version locking is a datasource setting. ProjectWise allows versions to be locked for references and/or flat sets, as well as notification to the user when a file is opened that new versions are available.
      It works well with MicroStation.
If this is new for your environment, I'd suggest testing it in another datasource before it be enabled on a live datasource. I have also seen this cause issues, if version locking is enabled without proper user notification and training. In scenarios like this it can effect deliverables if users are not on top of things and realize they may be looking at old references.
In the testing I have done, version locking works with nested references as well, although I have not tested it with a large number or deeply nested references so I cannot say if there are working limits here.
If you are trying to ensure that only approved references are used for production, you also need to look at the Rules Engine, as this is where enforcement comes in.

How do you do this? Also, can you do the same thing with Microstation? We ran into an issue with "nested" reference files in Microstation.
