Cannot Detach a model from managed model

    MS version 08.11.09.714

I get an error when trying to simply detach a reference file.

"You cannot detach a model from a managed model. The operation is cancelled."

Is this a known bug with this new version of Microstation? I had this version installed this week and previously never seen this error message.

I found a work-around. If you have Inroads SS2 still on your machine, open Inroads SS2 through your start menu. This clears the association of Microstation to Inroads SS4 and changes the app switch from…

Are you using any other application with MicroStation?  For example, ProjectWise?

Yes, I have ProjectWise open, and I opened the Microstation file through ProjectWise. This is something I’ve done for years without problems in previous Microstation versions though. I had 08.11.09.714 installed last week because that is the version compatible with Openroads (Inroads 08.11.09.845)

      Hi Ryan,

Could you please upload the dgn file together with any of the reference files you can not detach for testing purpose?
I have installed MicroStation 08.11.09.714 and I can not reproduce the issue.

      Regards
      Maria

Take a look at the wiki below for the answer to your question:

The solution posted may work but it isn’t practical. I shouldn’t have to load Openroads in order to detach a simple dgn file that wasn’t attached through Openroads. I should be able to do it through Microstation. Furthermore, if I have to open the file with Openroads, it says there’s obsolete civil data found and asks to upgrade the data.

When detaching a dgn, Microstation should have the capability to tell whether or not there’s civil data dependencies or not. If there is civil data dependencies, then a warning message makes sense, but not if there’s no civil data dependencies. To disable detaching a reference from basic Microstation whether or not there’s civil data dependencies is not acceptable.
