    Hi,

I just installed new projectwise SS4 on my server. I want to integrate my existing company data to projectwise without changing the drive location or any folder structures. I just want the projectwise to point to that folder directory in the network. is it possible?

    help will appreciated. thanks

    Jessie

Jessie, ProjectWise does not use a standard or existing folder structure to house the files. The tree structure you see in Explorer is held in the database. The files are put into folders in a Storage location that have names like dms000123. You can drag a tree into ProjectWise, once it is setup and it will replicate that folder structure on its tree. However, it will make copies of those files to the storage area you have created with its own naming system. I would suggest that you do not put the storage area at the root of your existing files, rather, create a new folder to be the root of your storage area. I would also suggest that if you have more than one storage area not to put one storage area as a child of another as it makes it difficult if you want to move the storage area who's root is the parent folder.

      Hi Dean,

Our client wants to access their existing data into projectwise without moving or creating copies and these data are located in a storage server. These data also link to another applications not just Bentley. The clients are also accessing the files directly to the storage server. For example, the files are big such as CAD files, point clouds and etc. is there any way we can manage these files without creating copies and not changing filenames.

      Thanks,
      JEssie
