ProjectWise Dynamic Composition Server for PDF & Document Code

I have installed ProjectWise Dynamic Composition Server for PDF and configured it to produce PDFs, but I have a problem with the Document Code.

If there is an environment on the destination folder it creates a gibberish Document Code that seems to be taken from the Description field.  Any ideas as to what is going on here ?

      Hi Rene,
This is most likely in your configuration.
the way I set up renditioning goes a little like this: The destination folder is set to use an environment that is for the exclusive use of the renditioning engine. This environment would have all attributes in it that you wish to have populated from the source document. There is no document code defined here, but all the attributes of the code and the code itself are present along with anything else you wish to synchronize.
If you do not configure the naming of the output it should take on the source name (IIRC). You do however have access to any metadata that can be used to define what you need the output name to be. This can be handy if you use different naming conventions for internal reviews vs. external deliverables for example.

      Hi Scott,

Do you mean that Renditioning simply does not support Document Codes ?

      regards
      René

      Hi Rene,
A document code as you may be thinking of it will not be generated for a rendition. The output is a system-generated file which does not use the same creation methodologies that would be used by an interactive user. You can, however, accomplish something similar with metadata.
A document code is little more than a collection of metadata fields that collectively come together to (hopefully!) make a unique identifier for a record or document. When renditioning, if the source document is unique, then so will be the rendition.
One thing that you do not want (IMO) is to have a source document and a rendition, both with the same document number in the same environment. This is part of the reason I have a separate environment for all renditions.

You might be seeing this defect: Mapping attributes corrupts document code attributes on renditions. For example, mapping attributes in the Output Destination, both the source and destination locations are using a document code. If the document description is included in the attribute mapping, the document code attributes are overwritten with bogus data. If this is the case, the defect was fixed in iCS for PDF CONNECT Edition and a priority build in iCS for PDF V8i. Send me a private message if you want this priority build.

      hi Dawn,

That sounds like my problem. I am interested in the priority build in iCS for PDF V8i. Can you send me a link ?
