yes, that is correct, do you know if it can be edited using the tools import/export?

If you were just updating the environment attributes, then during the export you likely choose not to export the file. However if you are updating fields that pertain to the file (listed on the general tab of the properties of the document) such as the description then the file has to be exported during the export process.
