ProjectWise Server (DMSKRNL) WMI performance counters

    Hi,

Quick question regarding something that is causing some confusion.

Currently I am in the process of upgrading some of our existing servers to newer OS - 2003 R2 (32bit) to 2008 R2 (64bit).

The existing servers have WMI performance counters for the ProjectWise server component giving information on sessions, connections, DB connection, exceptions, etc.

After installing the ProjectWise server software on the server (SS2), there are no performance counters also installed. Is there a particular method or are the software components for this located elsewhere?

    Thanks.

Vincent, see this article with a link at the end to a batch file you can use to setup performance counters: communities.bentley.com/.../monitoring-and-analyzing-your-system-with-performance-counters

Molly, i think what he may mean is something i'm seeing as well. Even after running that script, there are no ProjectWise counters listed or being collected. They also aren't listed as available to be added to a collection set. I'd just filed a SR earlier today regarding this.

The batch file provided in that link is actually just to start collecting the data... shouldn't be needed to add the counters to the server itself.  what version of PW and what OS is it running on?

Windows 2008 R2 64bit and ProjectWise Select Series 3 (.122 build)... and i definitely do not have any of the counters you're showing in your pic.

Sorry, Vincent, I see you did answer about the PW version and OS... I'll see if there were any issues with that, I don't recall at the top of my head.

Stephen, I'm curious what versions you are running as well.

This has to do with the bitness of the server and the application. PW SS2 and SS3 were 32 bit applications that can run on a 64 bit server, however the counters won't be available because of this difference. Starting in SS4, PW is a 64 bit application and you will be able to see the counters on a 64 bit server.

you may be able to open the 32 bit perfmon from c:\windows\syswow64 and see if they are available there, but I don't have a pre SS4 server available to test that.

However if the reason you are running these counters is to investigate any sort of performance issue, let us know if there is something we can do to help with that.
