PowerPoint file association with Office 2016

Since we upgraded to Office 2016 (using the Office 2016 plugin version 08.11.11.866), we have had the follwoing two problems with opening PowerPoint files from ProjectWise.

1. On Open ProjectWise opens two instances of PowerPoint - first one with the default template, as in New file, and then another with the file that was opened from PW.

2. Also if you Open a SlideShow file (.ppsx format), it is opened for editing and not as a slide show. ( PowerPoint opened with View shows as a slideshow regardless of file type)

I see that PowerPoint Open is set to PowerPoint.Show.PW, and PowerPoint View is set to PowerPoint.SlideShow.12 - and this is exactly as it was for Office 2010.

There is no problem opening a local file - it is only when opening from PW that this problem arises.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this ?

  • Hello Rene
I am not able to reproduce the issue where it opens to sessions. For this I would suggest to make sure you do not have any user associations set. In PW go to tools \ associations \ programs \ change association view to user, then scroll down to Microsoft PowerPoint and expand and the expand the open command. IF there is an association there, then right click and un-associate, click okay.
For the slide show to play, try right clicking the file and choosing view. It should launch the viewer.

  • Hi Dana,
I have checked that there are no User associations causing this.

Also I raised a Service Request on this and I was told that Bentley have raised a defect against this issue, Defect ID : 628032

I am not sure whether the Defect covers both issues - it may be only #2
  • Thanks Rene. I checked and the defect just covers Item 2. And after retesting, I can repro item two, but I could not repro item 1. I did notice that when I double click the pptx file that a blank file does open first but then the file I opened shows up. The blank file does not stay open and only one session of powerpoint is running. This is normal for office products. The double session may be caused by some permission on your system and the integration needs some tweaking. If you are still having issues with Item 1, please log a service request so that an subject matter expert can look at your setup.
