Microsoft Excel cannot access the file ... Error dialog

I can use Excel from the desktop, taskbar or start menu and open files from PW using the tools within Excel from the PW integration add-ins. But when I try to open a spreadsheet from PW using, read-only or for edit, I get the following dialog box. (I have fuzzed out any identifying portions of the file name as I may not have permission to share too much information.)

I also cannot open a Word Document in a similar manner, but there, I get no error message but I end up in Word in Document 1.

Interestingly, the View menu will open the files with no issue. The documents end up checked out and PW seems to think they are open in an application due to the warning I get if I try to Free the documents. And, if I close Excel or Word, I am greeted by the Local Document Organizer, showing the documents as checked out.

I even check in the Visual Basic IDE and there is no indication that these files are open but hidden.

I am an end user on a managed workspace and have no administrative privileges within PW.

I suggest trying to purge everything you have opened in PW. Once it's all purged, I'd restart the machine. I am an new administrator to PW and have seen some goofy things with PW and Office Products. Are you guys running 2013 products?

We are using Office 365. How that aligns with the by year versions is anyone's guess. The Version number is 15.x.xxxx.xxxx if that helps.

Bentley released a integration module for Office 2016 and 365 in September last year. 08.11.11.869. Your issue does sound like an integration issue. PW recognizes checking out/freeing/etc of the documents. The office products just don't recognize it. Does the issue occur with other documents? pdf/dgn/dwg/etc?

I have no issues with PDF/DGN /DWG & all the various files used by InRoads/Open Roads.

ProjectWise interacts with Office products using ODMA. It does not use ODMA with the file types you have no issues with.

      1. Does it not work when you use a different machine?
      2. Does it work when someone else logs on your machine?

If 1. is true, then either your ProjectWise program association has been changed and needs to be set back to Global, or you have roaming profiles.

Get with your ProjectWise Administrator to discover if the global defaults need to be fixed, or if you need to correct your associations.

If 2. is true then see if IT can give you a fresh profile and see if that clears it up.
