ProjectWise Datasource Security Affects Folder Security?

I have a question and I think I know the answer to it... but I need to make sure first.

In PW, I have a datasource for which I want to modify a document and folder permission. I want to do this so it affects *only* the 'Documents' folder (the top-level, root folder)leaving the project subfolders' security untouched. Since each project folder has been created with is own security set prior to this change, I am thinking I am okay to modify the datasource security setting and not have it affect the project folders. In other words, I don't want to modify the datasource properties and have that setting inherit down through the already existing project folders and subfolders.

Is it possible to make this change and not affect already existing folders? I think the answer is yes... can someone confirm?

    Thanks!

I would recommend that you take a look at the documentation for ProjectWise security. If you look in the ProjectWise Administrator help, under Security > ProjectWise Access Control > Workflow-based and Object-based Security, you will see how security is determined upon an "object" in ProjectWise. You might also want to take a look at this document, as it makes it much easier to understand how things work: communities.bentley.com/.../271167 It may be a bit out of date, but it does a really good job of making things a bit easier to understand.

      Hope this helps!

      Dan,

      Thanks for your input!

I ended up testing this on a separate datasource we set up for testing. The short answer is that datasource setting change did *not* affect the top-level folders' security, as I had sort of expected and definitely hoped. The reason for this is because the top-level folders in that datasource have their security explicitly set, and that then inherits down to the subfolders.
