    Managed Workspace Not Reading Properly

    Greetings,

We have two users - User A and User B. Both have the same versions of MicroStation (08.11.09.459) and PW Explorer (10.00.01.15) running on PW SS4 refresh (08.11.11.574).

User A can open DGN files and get the Managed Workspace properly.

User B only gets part of the Managed Workspace - references still come in, but symbology is not correct. No line styles nor fonts work correctly. The workspace is still being read, and shows under Workspace --> Configuration (and also under About Workspace). When querying the Symbology portion of the configuration, both users point to exactly the same set of *.rsc files (the client is not using DGNLIBs). User B has no user-entries for symbology that could override anything. We checked in PW Administrator, and neither user A or B has access to modify personal workspaces.

Sample output from User B's pwc.log:

    2017-03-27 13:10:50,527 ERROR [0x000048dc] pwise.rulesengine - Failed to read operation list.

2017-03-27 13:17:25,376 ERROR [0x000048dc] pwise.dgnviewer - expecting an instance of Dgn Navigator Control

Of note: when B logs onto to A's computer and fires up PW? It works fine.

So it sounds PC-specific, but I can't nail it down. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

depending on how configured managed workspaces may still be loading a user's ucf file too. Might check if there are user variables there and not just in the personal workspace.

I assume you already tried purging all the workspace files on User B?

Might also be a problem where PW chkl table is out of sync with actual files on the system. Easiest way to fix this is to have the user check in all checked out files. Then close projectwise. Change the user's working directory, and have them log back and say "yes" to creating new working directory.

      Kevin,

      Thanks for the reply!

We tried purging all files (inclusion the workspace) from User B's PC; that didn't do it.
We then investigated the chkl table possibility by logging out and changing the working directory. Still no dice.
We renamed User B's UCF to MicroStation.old and let it create a new one. The problem still persisted!

I appreciate your input... and I'm still scratching my head. Thanks again.

you can force microstation to produce a text file of all configuration variables. Create a User Association for MicroStation that adds the -debug command line option.

the output will show every config file that is loaded and every time a variable is set. It's a bit harder to read a managed workspace one than a regular one but you can still work through it.

I'd check the variable summary at the end first for something that doesn't look right, then compare against the user that is working to see if you can spot the problem.
