Project Wise trying to map a existing local drive

    Hi,

Our ProjectWise is connecting with Revit. When user clicks the folder icon to open a file, normally ProjectWise will open automatically. And ProjectWise will generate a local disk called Q: drive in local PC. But recently we have a newly mapped drive has the same name. error message pop out every time to say:  it is impossible to map drive Q: since it is already mapped or used by a physical device. The user has to manually delete Q: drive and reopen Revit. is there any way to change Q to some other label name. for example Z or V

    Thank you,

    Charlotte

this is assigned in the projectwise administrator. open administrator, login to the datasource, right-click the datasource name and select properties.

When the properties appear, click the Revit Integration. You can assign the drive there.

Note: this affects everyone in the datasource using Revit. I don't know the affect on Revit files that were using the old drive letter. People with more experience in Revit integration can probably answer that question.

Kevin, you are correct about there being an effect on the existing files.

Central Files store the full path for every object in the file. As soon the file is opened from the new drive mapping it will no longer be an editable Central File. It will need to be saved as a new project. Revit doesn't allow a replace so it will need to be saved in a new location or with a new name.

All in all it might be easier to change the newly mapped drive to a new letter.

I tend to recommend using B: drive since I haven't seen a floppy drive in use for years.
