While opening a file from Projectwise, it is "receiving changes" for reference files that were not updated in a while. Why?

    Hello,

I run PW 10.00.01.28. I have noticed this issue that happens once in a while. It is better explained with a example.

Consider file VBWorking.dgn. The very first time I had to open this file, Projectwise took a while to open it  - I understand this is because it has to download all the reference files attached to VBWorking.dgn to my local drive. Lets say I have been working on this file everyday for 22 days now. On day 23, I open VBWorking.dgn and it is taking a while to get past the window that says "Receiving changes for xyz.dgn (1/50)...". It goes on to receive changes for all of the 50 reference files attached to it. And instead of just receiving changes, I believe it might be trying to re-download the entire reference file.

I am quite sure that not all of the 50 reference files attached to it have been revised since the last time file VBWorking.dgn was opened. I am also sure that the reference files previously downloaded to my local drive were not deleted. I do not understand why Projectwise is trying to receive changes that were not made in the first place.

This is not such a major issue when I am working in the office and directly conencted to the company network - the dgn will load up in 5 minutes or so. However, it becomes a "work stoppage" issue when I am working remotely and connected to the company network via a VPN. The files are stuck forever in the "receiving changes" mode because these are large reference files. Internet connection speeds play a role - I understand.  But this issue, in my opinion, can be avoided if PW doesn't try to "receive changes" for reference files that were not updated at all.

Am I doing something incorrectly and causing this issue? Could you please explain if this is normal?

Please see the attached screenshot for reference. Thanks,

    Vinod

The user setting "Use up to date local copy on copy out" affects this too. If turned OFF then reference files will always be copied out, even if the local copy is up to date. If, as JROD points out, "Enable Delta File Transfer" is off then every single bit of the file has to be copied to your machine. Very slow.

Kevin - it was the "Use up to date..." option that solved the issue.
