Working directory when using ProjectWise Explorer possible with %localappdata% in Users Properties?

    Hi,

i'm setting the configuration of the User Properties in the ProjectWise Administrator on the server (CE3). So i need to change the "Working Directory" "When using ProjectWise Explorer". I'm wondering about the "%localappdata%" because it is used in the standard setting but on the client with ProjectWise Explorer (SS4) it does not work. Is this variable available in the path configuration or not? In the help file it's not mentioned for the "When using ProjectWise Explorer" but for "When using ProjectWise Web Server". The message on the client is something like "Working directory %localappdata%\xyz does not exist. Do you want to create it?" -> Yes -> "Can not create a directory. Full pathname is required to perform this operation.". The setting "Allow user to change working directory" is off. If use %localappdata% in the windows explorer it goes to "C:\Users\userX\AppData\Local" were i can create the required folders.

I hope someone has an idea

the way i read the help you can only use: $User.Name$ — the user's ProjectWise user name $User.Descr$ — the user's description $User$ — the user's number in the datasource in the working directory…

in PW V8i you couldn't use environment variables in the Working directory specification. Sounds like this changed in Connect Edition? Upgrade the client and see if it works.

the way i read the help you can only use:

      $User.Name$ — the user's ProjectWise user name
      $User.Descr$ — the user's description
$User$ — the user's number in the datasource

in the working directory for projectwise explorer. Note - if you have external users don't try and use the localappdata by hard coding: c:\Users\$User.Name$\AppData\Local - your projectwise username probably won't match the external user's computer username and it'll try creating the folder under c:\Users and lead to a lot of weird issues (in our experience, any way)

Yeah that's what i read in the help file too. But the %localappdata% thing was preconfigured in a new ProjectWise server installation so i was really wondering.

      Hello Christian,

I am using %userprofile%\documents\...... and it is working, as Kevin noted, though it isn't documented, so probably not supported but it does work for my deployments, CE .99
