    PWRE - Action types

    Hi,

I'm working to setup a set of rules in the PWRE. I have found a splendid description made by Graham Hirst where I have got a lot of good information from.

One part though, I haven't figured out is when creating Trigger Attributes. I can't figure out which type I should create the Trigger attribute to be.

I was advised to make them as INTEGERS, but a Interger attribute will allway contain a value. I can't be empty. It will either contain 0 (Zero), or a larger value. When having a trigger as an Integer I can't use the Condition "EMPTY" in PWRE and I can't test the on the value so I know if it's 0 or if it's another value.

What is the best type for a Attribute used for Triggers. Bit, CHAR, INTEGER... Other suggestion..

      Hi,

There is not really a 'right' answer to your question.

A Trigger attribute usually has a sole purpose to initiate a change to other attributes when it is updated and is generally an integer.

However it can just as well be a Character or drop-down list attribute and be used for multiple purposes - including the Condition checks - as even clearing the Trigger to make it Empty will initiate the update.

      Hope that helps
