FREE option disabled on ProjectWise Web

    Aitor de la Fuente
Offline Aitor de la Fuente over 2 years ago

Since we have started using ProjectWise Web, the option to Free a document when a Check Out has been performed is not available to any user, with the exception of administrator accounts.

The option appears to everyone but cannot use it. All users can and could free their checked out documents in ProjectWise Explorer, in that sense the configuration from ProjectWise Administrator is correct.

How can we solve this aspect?

    Best regards,

Hi Aitor, I did some investigation and it looks like we have a bug with this feature when using servers using PW WSG Plugin version 3.2 or lower which is what your WSG is using. I am working on a fix…

Projectwise Web complies with ProjectWise Explorer Access Control.

Do you have any specific Workflow or Folder Access Control setup that is restricting users ability to free

      Thanks for your reply Chris.

We've been working with ProjectWise Explorer for five years and never had this problem. The same users who can free the documents they have checked out from Explorer, do not have this option available when they enter the same work area, same folders, in the Web version and check out the same documents. Indeed, if PW Web complies the PW Explorer access control, they should be able to do the same with the same document on both platforms.

The "Can Free" option in the PW Administrator configuration is checked and is the one that allows users to free their own documents, checked out by those users.

The "Free" option of PW Explorer is only checked so that the documents can be freed even if those users have not checked them out themselves. That option has never been active except for administrators or specific users, but it does not prevent a user from discarding changes to their documents. If PW allow a Check Out, it should allow to Free, simply by having the Can Free box checked in PW Administrator.

I think you may have discovered an issue.

So if I'm reading this right. The user has checked a file out online (PW Web) and made changes by mistake and now wants to free.

As Free is turned off in PWE I think this is why it's not available in PW Web.

In PW Web what are the Check in options visible by the user?

      Regards

      Chris

Only the Check in and the Update server copy options:

If I set the Free option in the PW Explorer access control, I think the Free option would appear available, but wouldn't that also make it possible for any user to free documents that were checked out by other users? This would be a problem also....

Not if the option is applied to the user. But yes if applied to a group or list.

Audrius.Pundzevicius can you have a look into this?
