ProjectWise Web Connection and User Sync

    ProjectWise Client 10.00.03.434

    ProjectWise Server 10.00.03.280

    WSG 02.06.08.09

    1. Our WSG is configured at the datasource level, We launch ProjectWise Exp and go to a ProjectWise Project properties, in the ProjectWise Project (TAB) we click on 'make web connection' It gives a Web Connection has been created successfully message and Click ok. When we go to the ProjectWise Project landing page on the web. The connection shows in the details tile, however clicking on it takes us to area where there are no connections. Clicking on the ProjectWise Web tile does not show any connections either.
    2. When we have a connection we enable sync participants. Waited over an hour. However, do not see any users synced in the Project Participants tile. Also connected with 2 of the project users they do not see it in my projects nor can they search for the project.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ranveer

Hi Ranveer, A user wont see the project portal in the list at all until they first click on a link to the work area connection, once this is done it syncs the user and they will then see the project…

      Hi Ranveer,

This might help, although we originally thought user sync would work as you described:

User sync server PW Web - Content Management Forum - Content Management - Bentley Communities

      Regards,

      Hi Mark,

I thought this too however tested with a user and the user was not seeing the project at all.

Even when she searched the project it was not showing in her project list. It is really a odd process, which should have some kind of indication the process is completed or a way to see which users have synced to the project.

      Best,

      Ranveer

      Hi Ranveer,

Turning on sync does not automatically sync all users and groups. It will make it so that when users access the project for the first time it will check the projectwise settings and if the user has access to the datasource it will add them to the CONNECT project

It should work for users outside of the organization if they have permission to the datasource

It will show up in their projects list only after accessing the project which is when they will be added to the connect project

So right now the user has to access the CONNECT project to be added to it. The easiest way is for users to be given a sharable link into the CONNECT project to access the data initially.

      Hi Ranveer,

A user wont see the project portal in the list at all until they first click on a link to the work area connection, once this is done it syncs the user and they will then see the project within the list.  Opening a web link to a file or folder within the project will do.  It seems crazy to me but that's how it is, took me a while to work it out.

Another way to bring users over is by syncing a user list in to DM and that will bring the users over but it then treats externals and internal staff which again is not ideal.

      Gary
