Create a note field as attribute

    Hello

Any suggestion to create a note field as an attribute to allow users to drop some generic comment.

I was thinking adding a VarChar of 1000 Charater, but it seem we are not able to use carriage return to create line.

1000 is what I typically give them. 500 if there are a lot of other long attributes. can't remember if Bentley worked around it but SQL Server has a limit of 8000 bytes per row, and a row for environments…

In the attribute properties, under the Editing tab set the Control type to multi-line edit field.

Any limit suggestion for the length?

can't remember if Bentley worked around it but SQL Server has a limit of 8000 bytes per row, and a row for environments is all the attribute lengths added together. But notice I said "bytes" and not "characters". Varchar type is unicode encoding, in unicode a character can be 1-4 (or more? can't remember now) so 1000 characters can be 4000 bytes, or 1/2 the space. I think the smiley face emoji I put in that example is a 4 byte encoding.

If your users mostly use the English alphabet, most characters are 1 byte.
