Rules Engine and Excel

Hi Everybody,

The demand of using Excel to export/import the rules engine is annoying.

It could be nice if the export format could be optional. It could be wonderful if I have the opportunity to export to a CSV or a Tab separated file.

It's a company policy not to have MS Office installed on the servers. They have to be as clean as possible. I do not have the Admin module on my local com due to my daily use of an upgraded Projectwise Explorer. It's a mess.

How does other administrators handle this problem ?

Best Regards

  • For the second issue, we use virtual machines. I have a bunch. Because we have both hosted and on-prem projectwise running different versions we technically need 2 different admin, plus we need to test the latest .4xx relases of explorer.

My actual physical machine is setup with explorer & admin for our on-prem system (the majority of our datasources are here). I have a virtual machine with explorer and admin for hosted. I also do a lot of admin via powershell which doesn't need admin at all. Finally I have other virtual machines for testing the latest explorer with ORD & V8i CADD software.

For rules engine, We do zero admin from the intergration servers itself (we can't even login on the hosted one), so office is installed on the local virtual machine. Since projectwise and office are licensed per user for us (well up to 5 computers in the case of office) there is no extra cost.
