    Setting up Renditions

    We are a long time ProjectWise shop but no one ever setup renditions within our datasources. I've been on board since late in 2017 and am equally ignorant on how these are implemented.

    Can someone direct us to where we might find detailed resources on how to setup and implement renditions?

      The ProjectWise Administrator help has the information:

      https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/ProjectWise%20Administrator%20Help-v11/en/GUID-CBD67942-7700-7326-7E99-85D514D9C8D7.html

      The biggest issue for most setups is that Renditions uses InterPlot instead or the print/plot configurations. So it doesn't understand pltcfg files. Pltcfg typically has driver settings, weight mapping, color mapping, style patterns (for built-in line styles 1-7), font mapping.

      Weight and color mapping can also be done in a MicroStation pen table (as well as a design script). You can import your settings from the pltcfg directly into your pen table.

      We don't do font mapping, i'm not sure if a pen table can handle that so I would do that in a design script.

      Line style patterns (up/down pen patterns to create the line) can't be done in a pen table so I do those in a design script. I use the style_n command to configure this (see https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v19/en/GUID-F84A1B3C-EB9F-8290-35F6-CC0762896755.html). Basically create a text file and put the style_n commands in that file. Then tell renditions to use that design script in addition to your regular pen table when plotting. It'll apply both.

      ; Line style 1-7 up/down pen strokes
      style_1 = (0.03, 0.03)
      style_2 = (0.062, 0.062)
      style_3 = (0.125, 0.062)
      style_4 = (0.125, 0.062, 0.03, 0.062)
      style_5 = (0.045, 0.045)
      style_6 = (0.125, 0.062, 0.03, 0.062, 0.03, 0.062)
      style_7 = (0.0125, 0.045, 0.062, 0.045)

      For a datasource I try to keep most of the Profile components the same, only changing them as absolutely necessary.

      Source File Presentation Settings - this is the set file to use for the renditions. The rendition configuration just points at the set file in projectwise to use, and i force our projects to keep a set file in the same location in every project. So I set the path to <Folder.ProjectUrl>/CADDLib/Plot/ICS_FullSize_BW.set. ProjectWise substitutes in the Project folder for <Folder.ProjectURL>. Then this can be used on every project, but each project have it's own set file.

      I create 3 Presentation settings, one for half-size set file, one for a full-size set file, and one for a roll-plot set file.

      Output File Formats - I have a couple of file formats for different kind of PDFs (one with levels & book marks, and one with higer resolution, plus the one that 90% of projects use without those). I've also used the CALS output format in the past.

      Output File Naming - generally same name as source, but i've also got ones for using the sheet model name, the sheet model description.

      Output Destination - this is where i usually have to break down and create one per project. If I could get them to put their PDFs in a standard location this would be a lot easier. Generally I set the default to same as source but let the user change it too (there's a trick to doing this as the "Source file folder" option doesn't let the user pick a different location. Instead set the rendtion location to "Specific location" then put <Folder.Url> for the specified location. Then turn on the option to allow explorer to change folder at submit time. If they want to default to a different specific folder I create that as a new Output Destination and then set it as the default for the project.

      Rendition Profiles - for rendition profiles if they have a unique Output Destination I have to create a Rendition Profile specific to the project, otherwise I have standard "Half Size PDF" or "Full Size CAL" etc... because of how i do the set files even though they have the same profile the pen table, design script, paper size, etc... are all different per project.
