Reference File issue - File Does Not Exist

Some of our users have been experiencing issues with referencing files. We have a ProjectWise Managed Workspace. This happens with Microstation CONNECT U16 & ORD 2021 R1. PWE 10.00.03.434. I don't think there were any recent changes to our environment that would cause this issue.

The issue we are seeing is when we try to attach a reference file Microstation/ORD is reporting that the file does not exist. Someone discovered a workaround to resolve the issue, but we did not need to perform a workaround previously. The workaround is to find the file in PWE, right-click on the file, select check out. Then you right-click again and check the file in or free the file. I also discovered you can select Refresh Local Copy. If the file does not exist in your local working directory you receive a message stating it does not exist. Either way it copies the file to your local working directory. At this point you are able to reference the file.

It seems that Microstation/ORD is looking to the local working directory rather than PW for reference files. When I select Attach from the Reference Manager dialog PW opens. I checked under <Tools <Options and expand the Document dropdown the 2 options for "Use up to date local copy...." are not checked.

What am I missing here? What other information do you need to help resolve the issue?

Please try updating to ProjectWise Explorer 03.453. There is a fix in that release that addresses a file corruption issue when using ORD.

Updating to the version posted does not seem to fix our issue. I did figure out if I remote into my office PC I do not have an issue attaching references. It is when I use my laptop working at home. Same data sources are setup on both. My PW Admin colleague had me use his Connection Client account to login and using that his login the issue is resolved. We are having trouble nailing down the root of the issue.

Just to follow up on our issue, this does not seem to be a PW issue. I believe I nailed it down to a bug in CONNECT U16/ORD 2021 R1. The files I am experiencing the issue with were mostly created with ORD 2020 R3. I believe that CONNECT 16ORD 2021 R1 believes the files are a non-campatible file and reports the files as not found unless they already exist on your local working directory.

I realized today that my office PC was running CONNECT U15 while my laptop has CONNECT U16. I did not see the issue with referencing files with my office PC. I installed U16.1 on my office PC and then I had the reference file issue. I also installed U16.2 to verify the new version was having the same issue.

Our lead PW/CADD Admin was contacting support today to report what we found.

      Hi,

Not sure if this is the same issue, but we have discovered we get the same "not found" issue if any attached references include references in them locked to older versions (Our datasource has references version locking enabled). We've found that going to the reference file and setting all of its references to use active versions resolves this issue. It's frustrating because we normally don't use any nesting, bit it's still scanning through the nested references (in ORD at least).

      Regards,

      Mark
