ICS Performance factors & reliability Issue

    Hi Community.

Is anyone else experiencing extremely poor performance and reliability issues from their ICS service when creating PDF/renditions from .dgn files?

Is anyone else getting the following error?
Failed -- The following error occurred on [servernamehere] inside InterPlotProcessor.TopLevelExceptionHandler:System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800703FA): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {CAC2C26A-4215-11D0-98FB-08003601E054} failed due to the following error: 800703fa Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.

Our experience with this service is that it works sometimes and the rest of the time we get errors or it hangs up and we have to get the service/server rebooted.

Sometimes it takes 8 minutes per drawing sometimes 13 minutes per drawing. This is rather poor considering it takes less than a few seconds to open the same drawing in Microstation and print a pdf from there.

What has been your experience with this service?
Do you have any tips or tricks that you can share?

This is a messed up install. I've seen COM errors from InterPlot on Renditions servers, but it was a very long time ago with much older software, and pretty sure it was not about registry keys being marked for deletion. I haven't seen it in recent memory. I had to call support for the issue, I'd recommend you open a ticket with them.

We are having issues with Renditions - After installing ORD & MicroStation Connect to add support for creating renditions from those, and upgrading MicroStation V8i to the latest SS10 we now issues where after printing a large number of sheets we'll have 20-50 "LicensingLibWrapper" processes taking up multiple gigabytes of memory. This then causes an issue where the WmiPrvSe process from Microsoft taking up all the CPU, so now we have a server with no memory and no CPU. We're usually forced to reboot it.

Apparently this is a known problem with a fix coming forth in the (hopefully soon) ProjectWise 10.00.04.xx upgrade.

One of renditions primary benefits is not in generating single sheets quickly, it's in parallel processing renditions, so if each sheet takes 8 minutes and you have 4 processors, now it's producing 4 sheets every 8 minutes instead of 1. We've found 4 processors are no longer sufficient for us so we are boosting our server to 8 CPU processors and adding a second server with another 8 and creating a farm for processing renditions. We'll go to 6 iplot processors per server so instead of our current 4 sheets at a time we'll be able to do 12 sheets at a time.

Thanks, Kevin. We've escalated this with Bentley support and waiting for a resolution to the issue.

I know that we have 2 ICS servers with a total of 12 Interplot processors. It's a Bentley-managed environment.

2 Begin Proc, 2 Extraction Proc, 6 InterPlot Proc, 2 Distribution Proc

Besides the reliability issue where Bentley has to restart services and the new mentioned error, we find that the time taken to complete jobs is too long.
At this point in time, it's faster to produce PDFs manually via MS.
