Move your question to the ProjectWise Forum.  Use the More->Move button to move your post.

Remember to tell us both the version of MicroStation and the version of ProjectWise that you are using.

What is the exact version no. (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation that you are using? Use key-in VERSION to see the version no. in the MicroStation Message Center, or Help→About MicroStation in the backstage.

See this blog that shows you how to obtain MicroStation's version number.

Preference settings are stored in the Personal.UPF file under following folder. Check UPF related

      C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Bentley\MicroStation\10.0.0\prefs\

Check with your ProjectWise Administrator if Managed workspace has been setup and if this file is overwritten during product start.

Make the required Preference changes, monitor file Personal.UPF (check timestamp). Restart the product and check if the Personal.UPF is overwritten.

Create MSDEBUG, Show Configuration logs of standalone MicroStation and ProjectWise and compare the UPF file location.

It's not mentioned in the MicroStation docs, but since MicroStation Update 13 there is a variable that controls this: _USTN_TEXTFIELD_BACKGROUND_PREFS

The description of how it works is in the wiki:

Changing the Text Field background preferences - MicroStation Wiki - MicroStation - Bentley Communities

This variable overrides what you have in your user setting. I suspect you have a managed workspace and whoever maintains the workspace has it set to 0 which forces both checkboxes to OFF.

You can confirm this by using the key-in Show Configuration and then searching the text file that is opened for the variable. If the variable is not in that file then this isn't the problem.

If this is the problem you'll have to contact whoever maintains the managed workspace. They can remove the current setting which will allow each user's preference to apply, change the setting to your preference (assuming they think it's appropriate for everybody), or %undef the variable for just you.

The reason it works when you open the file outside of ProjectWise is there is no managed workspace and that variable isn't defined by default.
