    Error 58218

    PW 08.08.04.50

I have an office that is running into a few users with error 58218 - Check out location is already in use.  At first they tried Purging local files (through the Organizer), then deleting DMS folders.  I think for awhile, this would work but then even that didn't help.  If I change the location of the local working directory, it seems to go away but then comes back.

It seems to me that something in the database is faulty.  Is there anything I can do to the database like a "compress"?

I should have mentioned that we are running ProjectWise Server - 08.09.04.50 - the user was running ProjectWise client 08.09.40.63 but after these latest issues he loaded 08.09.04.116 but it didn't seem to make a difference.

      Scott,

ProjectWise tracks what it thinks is in the user's local working directory in a database table called dms_chkl.  There are three critical pieces of information that must be unique  for every entry in that table (file, node and working dir path). THis means no two users can copy a file out on the same node(computer) into the same working directory location. This is to prevent accidental overwriting of files and other potential data "confusion".

Sounds like what may be happening is somehow another user is copying files out on that same computer.  Michael's suggestion of the SL statement to run may help identify if that is the case.  Potential ways this might happen might be a admin user logging in on that PC, or a change in Active Directory, or possibly even some customization or utility that runs as some other user then the normal windows user that works on that computer.

      HTH,

In the updated ProjectWise builds 08.11.07.xx or higher versions, the CHKLCLEANUP Utility is available and can be used to correct the following issue in the database:

A user has many files checked\copied out and their system crashes beyond repair. Users using the same machine have the same ProjectWise-working directory. When one user tries to checkout a file that the other user has copied out, he may get an error. "Working directory is in use" or Error 58218.
