ProjectWise can't start MicroStation with desired File (Last Error [222])

When loading a dgn file from the ProjectWise database, ProjectWise copies all related references to the c:\pwwork\... Directory, but then throws an error when it tries to call MicroStation:

"Error Information - Last Error [222]

Cannot start application for the specified document. Check your program associations. Failed to generate managed workspace configuration file."

Even when I start ProjectWise with Admin rights the same error occurs.

The error log pwc.log reports errors like these:

Failed to generate managed workspace configuration file."

    2023-02-05 18:57:01,571 ERROR [0x00000fcc] pwise.socket - Error -10054 on socket 1644 at func: socket_sendData line: 1368

    2023-02-05 18:57:01,572 ERROR [0x00000fcc] pwise.netapi - Error -11502 "failed to send client request" reported at func: request_sendClientRequest2 line: 621

Some threads recommend to install PW Administrator and run chklcleanup.exe

Could that be the solution? (Where do I find the PW Administrator? Is it free to use?)

How can I solve this problem?

    My Systems are:

ProjectWise Explorer: Version 100.00.03.49 - Commercial Release

MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 17: Version 10.17.02.61

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro: Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044

    Thank you for your help.

failed to generate a managed workspace configuration means there is an error in the managed workspace config somewhere. chklcleanup is unlikely to fix this. There is a workspace folder in your projectwise working directory for the datasource you can try deleting all the cfg files in that folder, but i suspect this won't fix it either.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\ProjectWise\bin\pwc.log.xml and find the line

      <category name="pwise.dms.workspace"> <priority value="warn"/></category>

      change the value="warn" to value="all"

save the file, then try reopening your file again. The log file may have more hints about the problem after that (you want to look for log messages with pwise.dms.workspace on them instead of pwise.socket like you copied/pasted. Those socket log messages aren't very useful except to Bentley.

ProjectWise Explorer 10.00.03.49 is a very old version and isn't listed as supported in the version support matrix. Try upgrading to ProjectWise Explorer 10.00.03.453 as well.

the version support matrix is here: ProjectWise Version Support Matrix (bentley.com)

      Thank you, Kevin.

I'll ask my Admin for authorization to install a newer version of ProjectWise.

Meanwhile, the more verbose log contains the following entries (I hope, this note will not again be flagged as spam and deleted.)

Does this look like a case for Bentley Support?
