ProjectWise indexing and ifilter for photos

Our structural group needs to know when their photos were taken and in MS Windows Explorer there is a column called Photo Date but they need that shown in ProjectWise.  I googled for an iFilter and found one made by AimingTech but it doesn't seem to work.  Does anyone know how to get to this information shown in PW V8i?

Currently our staff has to copy out the file and go to the dms folder in windows explorer to read the date then put it back and it is driving them crazy.  Besides being incredibly inefficient it defeats the purpose of a managed environment.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Aren't those part of the file properties that get indexed like Word or Excel?

      Thanks,

      Shawn

      Michael,

Extracting properties from images can vary by the way the image was created,  there doesn't seem to be any consistancy from camera to camera, also File Property exttraction only works for file formats that conform with COM Structural Stores, which is why file properties are not extracted from those formats.

Apparently not and I guess since there are different standards out there which complicates this even further.  It seems pretty simple, especially when you see it in windows explorer; it is downright annoying that you can't access it!

I think I filed a CR requesting support for extracting EXIF properties from image files. It would've been awhile ago (2004 projectwise i believe).

I still want it.  Might be hard, but it's certainly worth it to us.  If I right-click on a digital camera JPEG in Windows and go to the advanced properties I can see this data, at least on some files. Seems like if Windows can see it, ProjectWise should be able to extract it somehow.

ProjectWise Geospatial SELECTseries 2 will be released soon and will have the capability of scanning EXIF tags.

This new feature will allow you to :

      • Populate environment attributes from exif tags

      • Use tag GPS information to create a spatial location

      Regards

      Nicolas
