Engine Rule to check how long since the last file version or Is there a way to prompt user to create a new file versions?

Hi, I would like to know if it's possible to create a rule engine that check how long since the last version of file was done?

The problem we have is that often team will works long hours on a file and would not create versions and at some point in time the file on Projectwise would get corrupted (ex: a user update projectwise with a corrupted version of file). 

Is there a way to prompt user to create a new file versions?

Or any workflow that does this is appreciated or idea to have more versions and backups of files.
