    Default location for document templates

Either I cannot find this option or it does not exist.

I am looking for the option to set a path in PW for document templates.  I am using the Advanced Wizard for document creation and would like it when I select a PW document as a template that path be pre-determined.  If my memory serves me right I thought this is an option, but of course my memory could be wrong.

     Anyone?

    TIA

    Sean

      Hello Sean,

As far as I know there are three possibilities to select document templates using the Advanced Wizard:

      1. To create a new document based on an existing ProjectWise document, turn on Use ProjectWise document as a template, click Select, and select a document from the Select Template Document dialog. If you are dragging an existing ProjectWise document from one folder to another, this option and the document you are dragging over will be selected by default.
      2. To create a new document based on a file not currently stored in ProjectWise, turn on Use external file as a template, click Browse, and select the external file to use as your seed file. If you are dragging a file in from Windows Explorer, this option and the file you are dragging in will be selected by default.
      3. To create a new document by using a file or document that has already been used by the wizard to create a new document, turn on Select from recent used templates and select the file or document to use from the list. This option is disabled if this is the first time using the wizard.

I think, the third case would be the answer to your question. In such way it is possible to use already pre-determined path. Or do you want to do something else?

      Edita,

Thanks for the explanation, but I already know how to use the Advanced Wizard.

I am asking if there is an option to tell ProjectWise Explorer to use a specified path for a document template either with a variable or with ProjectWise Admin.  As an example, in MicroStation there is a variable called MS_DESIGNSEED that allows a person to set a path that will always select the correct seed file for MicroStation to create a new drawing.

In ProjectWise Explorer if I create a new document based upon an existing ProjectWise document, I would like to set the path ProjectWise Explorer goes to when I click Select.  A pre-determined path.

Is there a variable or some other way to set the path?

      Sean,

I believe what you are needing has already been filed as a Change Request (cr 225669)

The change request states that a template folder can be configured in ProjectWise administrator to a certain folder location so when the user selects, from the Document Creation Wizard, "Use ProjectWise document as a template" and they select browse a predetermined folder would open with all the available templates.  In your MicroStation scenerio the one variable for dgns could work, but as many differnt types of files will be created have a central folder with all available templates would fix your issue as I understand it.

As you already seen when you add a document as a template it is stored in the "Select from recent templates"  This information is stored in the pwv8.brg file.  So if your goal is to have everyone use the same template when creating files, you could go through the steps of creating the files, that would then populate the recent file area, you could then copy the pwv8.brg file to all of your users, this isn't as elegant as have the template predefined, but it could be a viable workaround.

As another note you can view the contents of the pwv8.brg file using the ProjectWise registy editor which is in the program group Administrative Tools

One more item, the pwv8.brg file is located in the users Document and settiings for example

      C:\Documents and Settings\stephen.herrick\Application Data\Bentley\ProjectWise\Config\pwv8.brg

      Regards,

      Stephen,

      Good day

This seems like a very old conversation and I am sure that (cr 225669) is resolved. Where will we find the final procedure to this request?

Yes I was looking for the same thing, was the change request done.  We have this for Work Area's seems logical to have a document template folder that can be used as a selectable drop down list for Documents in the new documents dialog.
